JANUARY NA NAMAN. Bagong buwan, bagong taon at bagong simula para sa ating lahat. Isang mahabang paglalakbay na kung ano ang mangyayari sa hinaharap, we don’t know. We can only pray and hope for the best.
The month of January was named after the Roman god Janus. Sa Roman mythology, siya ang “the god of good beginnings.” He is the doorkeeper of heaven and the god of beginnings and endings. May dalawang mukha ang kanyang estatwa, one on each side. His figure represents time dahil nakikita ng kanyang mga mukha ang nakaraan at ang future. Janus symbolizes what happened in the old year while looking forward to the new one.
I asked some stars about the most memorable things that happened to them in 2010 and what do they look forward to in 2011. Here are their answers:
Erik Santos – I have wonderful memories about my career last year. Nandiyan ang ASAP XV, Star Power where I get the chance to work with Megastar Sharon Cuneta, an acting stint in Maalaala Mo Kaya, and sold-out concerts last February and September which I produced. Masaya rin ako dahil healthy ang aking family. Sana this year, I have more projects. I am looking forward to a musical that I’m set to do, my US and European tour scheduled this first quarter, and my new album.
Sitti – I experienced my first real heartbreak last year. Hehe… Looking forward to my new album this year, more breakthroughs, more shows abroad.
Amy Perez – Ang 2010 ay ang first Christmas namin sa new house kaya naman very thankful talaga kami and at the same time excited. Thank you Lord for all the blessings!
Direk GB Sampedro – The changes that happened in my career. It was a welcome change that I became a part of the Kapatid Network. I look forward to doing more projects with TV5.
Laarni Lozada – To have been accepted by Backroom and be handled by a talent manager who is the best in the entertainment industry. I’m looking forward to a productive year as a singer. I want to share my music to a wide range of audience here and abroad.
Hermes Bautista – The most memorable thing that happened to me last year was the life after the Big Brother experience. My life somehow changed unexpectedly. I’m hoping for a successful showbiz career for 2011 and for the coming years.
Let us look forward to a brighter and bigger 2011 with hopes for peace and prosperity for all. Sana ay mas maraming masasayang pangyayari sa mundo ng showbiz. May the movie industry produce more quality films that will showcase the Filipino talent. I hope the international music scene will open its elusive doors to more Filipino artists. Sana ay lalo pang makilala ang kagalingan ng mga Pinoys abroad. Please no more disasters which could affect millions of homes, communities, properties and life. Magkapatawaran at magkabati na rin sana ang mga dating nagkasamaan ng loob. Hindi ba mas masarap umpisahan ang taon if you start on the right foot? Mas masarap ngumiti kesa sumimangot. Sabi nga nila, it takes more facial muscles to frown than to smile. Subukan mo, kaibigan.

MANILA, Philippines — Despite the far-flung location and their busy schedules, the high-profile friends of Manny Pacquiao from showbiz, politics and boxing still graced his 32nd birthday celebration last Friday, December 17.
Among the celebrities who flew to General Santos for the occassion were Top Rank promoter Bob Arum, Manny’s coach Freddie Roach, Puerto Rican boxer Juan Manuel Lopez, retired boxer Gerry Peñalosa, Gov. Luis Chavit Singson, San Juan Cong. JV Ejercito, and General Santos City Mayor Darlene Antonino-Custodio.
Recall that Mayor Custodio was Manny’s rival for the congressional seat of South Cotabato’s first district in the 2007 elections, which the latter lost.
Renowned comedians Bayani Agbayani and Long Mejia hosted the event, [B]while top musicians Side A and Erik Santos were personally chosen by Manny to sing during the party.[/B]
“It’s our first time performing for Manny’s birthday kaya nakakatuwa. Sana sa susunod, kami naman ang pagbigyan at mag-guest siya sa concert namin,” members of the Side A band told abscbnnews.com on December 17.
“Pinoy Dream Academy” season two winner Laarni Lozada, actor Philip Salvador and senator-actor Bong Revilla belted out tunes as well.
An overjoyed Manny expressed his gratitude for his guests.
“Masayang-masaya ako sa dami ng mga bisita natin na dumating, dumalo… mga constituents ko from Saranggani, mga kaibigan ko, ang mga friends ko from Los Angeles, and friends from Manila. Nandito sila lahat at surprised ako sa pagdating nila,” he told “Bandila” on Dec. 17.
The birthday boy once again showed his generosity by raffling off various prizes, including a brand new Toyota Vios and a million pesos in cash prize.
According to reports by “Bandila” and bomboradyo.com, the eight-division world boxing champ’s wife Jinkee herself organized the lavish event.
Manny and Jinkee’s families were all there, however, Mommy Dionisia wasn’t able to carry out her planned gift for her son and the guests — apparently a song number — when the minus one CD of the song she was supposed to perform went missing.
Meanwhile, bomboradyo.com reported that the assumed pronouncement that evening of Manny’s opponent for the already anticipated May 7, 2011 bout at Las Vegas, Nevada did not push through. However, Bob Arum will continue negotiations with three possible contenders once he’s back in the US. Already, Arum is set to have a meeting with boxer Sugar Shane Mosley and his representative James Prince on Dec. 20.
Aside from Mosley, WBA/WBO lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez and WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto are also being considered to fight Pacman. The identity of his new foe is aimed to be revealed by years end

What Erik wants for Christmas
A new love life is all Erik Santos wants this Christmas. Three years after his rollercoaster romance with Rufa Mae Quinto, the romantic champion says he is ready to love again. This time he wishes it will last forever. “All I want this Christmas is a new love (and) hopefully (it’s) for life,” laments Erik. The 28-year-old balladeer says that after Peachy (Rufa Mae’s nickname), he has learned how to be more cautious when it comes to matters of the heart. He has actually been looking for love but has never quite found the right person yet. One good thing that came out of his broken love affair with the comedienne is that he has now a clearer idea on what he now wants in a girl, in a relationship. “I want someone who is God-fearing, honest and loyal, faithful… I don’t want to be a hypocrite but I want someone pretty so that every morning when I wake up, it’s her pretty face that I see first,” shares Erik. It would also be much better if the girl is non-showbiz or goes to the same Church (The Victory Christian Fellowship) as he does, says Erik. Erik is full of hope that The One is just out there. “Oo naman marami pa akong makikita,” enthuses Erik, “And if I find her, I will announce it to the world. Why would I hide her?” Currently single, Erik maintains he expects a very lonely and sad Christmas. “I am happy being single kahit naging malamig ang pasko ko for three years now (I am happy being single even if I had been spending Christmas without someone special for the past three years),” admits Erik. Erik will spend Christmas with his family, something that he has always done every year. “For me, Christmas has always been about family,” says Erik. As early as October, the singer has already gifted himself a special present, something he has dreamt about even before he became a star: A brand new BMW. “I bought a BMW as a gift to myself both for my birthday and Christmas,” says Erik. “I wanted the gift to be special because my birth date coincidentally fell on the 10-10-10 lucky number.” Indeed, the number 10 has been auspicious for Erik. According to him, 2010, in fact, showered him with countless blessings after spending seven years in the industry. The latest gift he has received, and aims to share with fans, is a new album from Star Records titled All I Want this Christmas. It is a 14-track CD composed of seven original Christmas compositions and seven covers. The first single off the album is Erik’s heart-wrenching rendition of Sana Ngayong Pasko. “Most of the songs from the album are my personal choices,” says Erik. “The album is basically inspired by all of our experiences in love. It has inspirational songs too that define how the world is feeling now, which is (simply) celebrating Christmas.” Erik adds that the carrier single is not necessarily dedicated to anyone in particular but instead to those he has loved before. “Ito ay para sa mga inibig ko na minahal ko at totoong minahal ako (This is for those I loved and who truly loved me back),” confesses Erik. One of his favorite songs though is The Christmas Song, which Erik says brings him back to a childhood memory particularly when he used to believe in Santa Claus. “Naaalala ko noong time na nagsasabit pa ako ng stocking sa Christmas tree at nag-aantay kay Santa Claus… (I remember the time when I used to hang a stocking on our Christmas tree and wait for Santa Claus to come),” recalls Erik who adds that he still wants to believe in Santa Claus even at his age. The album All I Want This Christmas also comes with a 2011 calendar and is now available in all major record bars nationwide for P299. Aside from love life, what does he want more this Christmas? “I wish for more projects next year and I’m looking forward to the musical that I am supposed to do, a US and European tour and a new album,” muses Erik. |

Anyway, namula nang husto ang mukha si Erik nang tuksuhin namin siya sa launching ng kanyang album na All I Want This Christmas, tungkol sa nakaraan nila ni Rufa Mae. Wala palang idea si Erik na ipinagmamalaki siya ni Rufa Mae. Sabi nga ni Rufa Mae, masarap magmahal si Erik. Na sa lahat ng nakarelasyon ni Rufa Mae, si Erik ang nakapagbigay sa kanya ng kakaibang sarap. Hindi nga alam ni Erik kung paano magri-react sa mga narinig niya. Pero minabuti niyang huwag na lang magsalita dahil baka raw pagsimulan ‘yon ng intriga sa kanilang dalawa ng sexy comedienne. Sina Sarah Geronimo at Maja Salvador ang sabi-sabing crush ni Erik. Pero, nang tanungin namin siya tungkol sa dalawa, nakiusap siya na huwag na lang silang pag-usapan. Bagama’t malapit sa kanya sina Maja at Sarah, ayaw raw niyang pag-usapan ang dalawa. Rason niya, baka raw maakusahan siyang ginagamit ang dalawa para sa promo ng kanyang album. *** Nagbitiw na ng statement ang longtime boyfriend ni Boy Abunda na si Bong Quintana na handa niyang iwan ang posisyon niya sa Pagcor bilang Asst. Vice President for Entertainment kung may ibang magkakainteres at papayagan ng board na ibigay sa iba ang kanyang posisyon. Nasasalang kasi ngayon sa intriga si Bong, na diumano ay nagpapakasarap daw ito sa kanyang posisyon. Anyway, ibinuking nga ni Bong na hindi kalakihan ang suweldo niya sa Pagcor, kumpara sa natatanggap niya sa Talent Management Production nila ni Boy Abunda. Mula rin daw nu’ng umupo siya nu’ng July ay hindi pa siya sumusuweldo sa Pagcor, dahil hindi pa raw niya naisa-submit ang kanyang mga requirements. Inamin din ni Bong na nagkakaroon sila ng mga diskusyon ni Boy sa trabahong pinasok niya dahil binabarat daw niya ang mga talents ng Backroom para mag-show sa Pagcor. Si Bong ang humahawak ng lahat na may kinalaman sa entertainment sa Pagcor, at iniintriga rin siya na puro mga Backroom artists ang kinukuha niya. Sey nga ni Bong, madalas daw na tinatanggihan niya ang mga talents ng Backroom para walang issue. Pero naku-compromise ito dahil may clamor daw ang mga casino players na mapanood ang mga artist ng Backroom gaya ni Erik Santos. Sabi nga ni Bong, kung hindi dahil sa magandang pakikisama niya sa industry, mahihirapan siyang kumuha ng mga singers, performers and artists sa presyong puwede lang niyang ibayad. |

Ayaw niyang sabihin sa amin kung anong exac t model ng nasabing kotse, basta BMW ito at binayaran niya nang cash. Nasa mahigit P2M ang halaga nito, na sadyang pinag-ipunan niya. Sey ni Erik, nanay niya ang una niyang isinakay sa kanyang BMW dahil wala siya ngayong lovelife. Three years na raw na malamig ang Pasko niya, pero okey lang dahil happy siya sa pagi ging single. After ng relasyon nila ni Rufa Mae Quinto ay nagkaroon si Erik ng ‘more than friends’ na relasyon, pero hindi niya ito matatawag na girlfriend. Naudlot ‘yon kaya hanggang ngayon ay loveless pa rin siya. Ang qualities na hinahanap niya sa babae ay God fearing, honest, lo yal at faithful. As much as possible, gusto ni Erik na kasamahan niya sa church (Victory Christian Fellowship) ang babaeng makakatuluyan niya. Very active si Erik sa VCF. Kasama niya sa kanilang ‘small group’ sina Piolo Pascual, Sam Milby, Christian Bautista at Mark Bautista (kahit wala na ito sa ABS-CBN). Minsan ay sumasama rin sa kanila si Richard Poon. Gumigimik pa rin daw si Erik at paminsan-minsan ay umiinom, pero mas malakas daw ang control nila sa temptation. Hindi raw sila basta-basta nagpapadala sa tukso. Sa grupo nila ay Piolo ang pinakamasigasig sa kanilang church. “For me, it’s good. Pero sa iba, puwedeng hindi maganda. Depende sa paningin ng mga tao. But he is our leader.” Sumang-ayon si Erik sa sinabi namin na tila papunta na sa pagiging pastor si Piolo. Aniya, ‘calling’ ang bagay na ‘yon na parang katu lad sa pagpapari. Feeling ni Erik at base sa nakikita niya ay may ganu’ng calling si Piolo. Siya raw ay wala siyang nararamdaman na gano’n. Okey na sa kanya ang maging follower na nakikinig lang. Samantala, natatawa na lang si Erik ‘pag tinatanong siya kung hindi niya nami-miss ang dati nilang mainit na romansa ni Rufa Mae. Napabalita noong may balak magpakasal ni Rufa Mae sa ‘mystery boyfriend’ nito. Ayon kay Erik, hanggang ngayon ay hinihintay pa rin niya na magpadala ng wedding invitation ang sexy comedienne. Hindi ba siya sinabihan ni P-chi (palayaw ni Rufa Mae) na hindi na tuloy ang nasabing kasal? “Nababalitaan ko lang. Ayoko namang magtanong, eh. May bagong Christmas album si Erik Santos titled All I Want This Christmas kaya naman sa press launch ay naitanong namin sa kanya kung sino o ano nga ba ang “all he wants for Christmas”.
“All I want this Christmas is a new love,” sagot naman niya.
Dagdag pa ng Prince of Pop, matagal na raw siyang walang girlfriend at ang huling seryosong relasyon pa niya ay si Rufa Mae Quinto.
This time, gusto na raw niyang umibig muli at sana raw ay for life na sakaling makakita siya.
‘Yun nga lang, wala raw siya idinedate ngayon at wala ring nililigawan kaya mukhang malabo matupad ang wish ni Erik.
Natanong sa kanya kung kamusta na sila ni Maja Salvador at natatawang sabi ng singer, “Tagal na nung issue na yun, ah!”
Friends lang daw sila ni Maja at wala naman daw anumang something na namamagitan sa kanila.
So, ano ang Pasko niya, malamig o mainit?
“Ah, pareho mainit dahil masaya naman ako sa nangyayari sa akin at sa career ko. Actually, ngayong 2010, sobrang blessed po talaga ang year na ito sa akin. Ah, malamig kasi nga wala pa akong lovelife.
This year kasi ay nagkaroon si Erik ng chance na subukan ang acting dahil matatandaang nagbida na siya sa Maalaala Mo Kaya at naging maganda naman ang feedback.
Napabalitang magkakaroon si Erik Santos ng isang teleserye pero ayon sa kanya, wala pang balita tungkol dito.
Kung sakaling gagawa siya ng isang teleserye, sino naman ang gusto niyang maging leading lady?
“Si SARAH GERONIMO,” mabilis na sagot ni Erik.
Bakit si Sarah?
“Si SARAH kasi matagal ko nang siyang kasama, matagal ko na siyang kaibigan at feeling ko pag naging partner ko siya sa isang drama series, magiging magaan po yung working relationship namin coz medyo matagal na rin po talaga yung pagkakaibigan namin.”
Crush ba niya si SARAH?
“Sino ba naman ang hindi hahanga sa isang Sarah Geronimo? Sino ba naman ang mabibighani sa kanyang kagandahan at kabaitan. Pero we’re friends, we’re very good friends,” sabi ni Erik. Habang inuurirat ng press ang pop singer tungkol sa POP PRINCESS ay nagba-blush siya kaya naman ang impresyon ng lahat, matindi talaga ang tama niya kay Pop Star.
Tamang-tama naman dahil si Erik ang Prince of Pop kaya nga bagay sila.

 GOOD YEAR FOR ERIK ERIK Santos is no doubt the most successful “Star in a Million” winner and this year is his most fruitful so far. He had two big concerts, both soldouts, especially the one at Meralco Theatre he himself produced. He did several shows abroad and is now co-hosting “Star Power” with Sharon Cuneta. He also got into acting in “Maalaala Mo Kaya,” getting good feedback. “Marami talagang blessings,” he beams. To celebrate, Erik as Prince of Pop comes up with a new Christmas album, “All I Want for Christmas,” and will spread cheer in SM Malls this holiday season. “All I Want for Christmas” is a collection of classic holiday tunes with original songs. The first single is Happy Merry Christmas, an original song about pure joy and happiness during the holiday season, made with another version , SM Chrism, to accompany SM Mall shoppers while they go through their Christmas lists. Erik also revives Ariel Rivera’s Sana Ngayong Pasko in one of the most heartfelt versions of this classic Christmas hit. “Mas may tama sa puso,” says Almed Garcia of Backroom. Other songs in the album are “Silent Night/Holy Night,” “Hark the Herald, “First Noel,” “Ngayong Pasko,” “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen,” “Christmas Song” and many more.
